The original members of the “Ad Hoc Low Income Coalition,” convened by Cushing N. Dolbeare in 1974, included AFSCME, American Friends Service Committee, Americans for Democratic Action, Coalition for Human Need, AFL-CIO Department of Urban Affairs, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Housing Assistance Council, Jesuit Conference, Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, League of Women Voters, NAACP, National Committee Against Discrimination in Housing, National Housing Conference, National Rural Housing Coalition, National Student Association, National Tenant Association, UAW-CIO, United Mine Workers, and the U.S. Catholic Conference. The ad hoc committee became the National Low Income Housing Coalition. We are proud of our roots in civil rights, the labor movement, faith-based social justice, and housing organizations.
