Advocates Press White House to Include NHTF in Jobs Plan
In anticipation of President’s post-Labor Day jobs speech, members of the National Housing Trust Fund Campaign continue to advocate that funding for the NHTF be part of the administration’s proposal. The speech will be on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 EDT before a joint session of Congress.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent a letter to senior White House officials on September 2, calling for funds for the NHTF to spur job creation.
This followed an August 23 letter to the directors of the National Economic Council and the Domestic Policy Council from the NHTF Campaign citing the 153,000 jobs that would be created with a $10 billion investment in the NHTF (see Memo, 8/26). The campaign’s letter was signed by 44 national organizations. Two other organizations, the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust and LISC, were added to the list of signatories this week.
