Representative Patrick Meehan (R-PA) reintroduced legislation that would allow public housing agencies to divert voucher payments from landlords who are delinquent on local school or property taxes to the local municipality owed the taxes. In the 112th Congress, the National Education Association endorsed the legislation, saying that before schools lay-off teachers, “we should first make sure landlords who receive federal housing assistance have paid their local property taxes.” H.R. 1193, introduced on March 14, was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.
