On January 25, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) introduced a bill to extend Gulf Opportunity (GO) Zone low income housing tax credits for one year, from their scheduled January 1, 2012 expiration to January 1, 2013. The bill is cosponsored by every Gulf Coast Senator except for Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL). Senator Sessions did support a change Senator Landrieu tried unsuccessfully to attach to the December tax extenders bill (see Memo, 12/11/09). During floor debate on that change, Senator Landrieu secured support from Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, to take up extension of the placed in service deadline early in the 112th session. Senator Baucus is also a cosponsor of this new bill. This bill, S. 30, was referred to the Senate Committee on Finance.
