As expected, Representative Ed Royce (R-CA) introduced a bill, H.R. 2441, the Housing Trust Fund Elimination Act of 2011, on July 6. Financial Services Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) and Capital Markets and GSEs Subcommittee Chairman Scott Garrett (R-NJ) are co-sponsors.

The bill will be marked up by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, July 12. The mark-up will be at 10am in Rayburn 2128. Six other bills that are part of the Chairman Garrett’s strategy to dismantle Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be marked up as well.

NLIHC President and CEO Sheila Crowley testified against Mr. Royce’s bill at the Subcommittee’s hearing on these bills on May 25 (see Memo, 5/27).

The NHTF Campaign is calling on all NHTF supporters in the Congressional districts whose Representatives are on the Subcommittee to urge their Representatives to oppose H.R. 2441.
