% of LIHTC Properties that Target: All Projects 1995-2009*
% of Properties in:
Difficult Development Area (DDA) 22.5%
Qualified Census Tract (QCT) 30.4%
DDA or QCT 44.4%
*The targeted population percentages are based on the 12,494 properties with data on these characteristics. The DDA and QCT percentages are based on the 19,236 properties that were geocoded.
DDAs are metropolitan or nonmetropolitan areas in which construction, land and utility costs are high relative to incomes. QCTs are tracts in which at least 50% of the households have incomes of less than 60% of AMI or have a poverty rate of at least 25%. LIHTC properties in QCTs or DDAs receive a 30% boost in their eligible basis, which in turn increases investors’ tax credits.
