Senators now have until May 16 to sign a “dear colleague” letter from Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) encouraging HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan to “swiftly complete” a final rule regarding a jurisdiction’s obligation to affirmatively further fair housing (AFFH). HUD issued a proposed rule on July 19, 2013 (see Memo, 7/19/13).
“HUD should move forward in assessing public comments…so that a final Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule may be implemented in all communities as quickly as possible,” writes Senator Brown.
Advocates are urged to contact their Senators to sign the letter to Secretary Donovan. Senators can contact Megan Cheney, Megan_Cheney@brown.senate.gov to sign the letter. The new deadline is May 16.
