The Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding (CHCDF) and other organizations are circulating a sign-on letter to House and Senate appropriators calling for an increase to the FY13 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) 302(b) subcommittee allocation.
Congressional appropriations work begins with the House and Senate appropriations committees dividing up a total spending amount for each fiscal year between the 12 appropriations subcommittees. This subcommittee allocation is referred to as a 302(b) allocation.
The letter calls for an increase to the allocation for the subcommittee that provides funding to HUD. The letter notes the importance of affordable housing, community development and transportation funding to low income households and underserved communities. The letter calls for appropriators to increase the THUD allocation after the subcommittee was deeply cut in FY12.
NLIHC urges national organizations concerned about programs funded in the THUD bill to sign onto the letter. More than 120 national organizations have already signed onto the letter. The deadline for the letter has been extended to March 7.
CHCDF is a campaign of more than 70 national organizations concerned about funding for affordable housing and community development programs and is staffed by NLIHC.
