Hearing for New FHFA Director Set for June 27

The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Thursday, June 27 at which the Committee will consider the nomination of Representative Mel Watt (D-NC) to be the next Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Mr. Watt has been nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Acting Director Ed DeMarco.

Like other nominees that require Senate confirmation, support for Mr. Watt’s nomination is expected to fall along partisan lines.

Given Mr. DeMarco’s failure to lift the suspension of contributions the National Housing Trust Fund by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a new person as the regulator of the GSEs may bring about an end to this stalemate.

The hearing will be at 10am EST in Room 538 of the Dirksen Senate office building.
