Virginia Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe has nominated HUD Deputy Secretary Maurice Jones to be the state’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade.
Mr. Jones has been HUD Deputy Secretary since April of 2012. His basic responsibilities included managing HUD’s day-to-day operations, annual operating budget, and employees. He was also actively involved in policy, meeting with HUD’s stakeholders at HUD headquarters as well as at local and regional gatherings.
Mr. Jones is originally from Virginia, where he served as Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Social Services and as the Deputy Chief of Staff to then-Governor Mark Warner. At the U.S. Treasury Department, Mr. Jones served as special assistant to the General Counsel, legal counsel to the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, and Director of the CDFI Fund during the Clinton Administration.
