NLIHC is excited to announce that author, columnist, professor, and TV show host Melissa Harris-Perry will keynote our 2013 housing policy conference. Her address will open the conference on Monday, March 18, 2013.
Dr. Harris-Perry is a professor of political science at Tulane University and previously held faculty positions at Princeton University and the University of Chicago. She is a columnist for The Nation magazine and hosts the Melissa Harris-Perry Show on MSNBC.
In her most recent book, Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America, Dr. Harris-Perry combines social science research with insightful cultural commentary to explore the social narratives that define and constrain African-American women. She urges political action as an antidote to the “misrecognition” that black women encounter.
The presidential election and the ongoing debate over debt and the deficit mean 2013 will bring extraordinary challenges—and opportunities—for housing advocates. Unite with advocates, providers, tenants and residents, and policy professionals from across the country at the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s annual housing policy conference and lobby day. Learn how we can work together to solve the housing challenges of the lowest income Americans.
United for Action: NLIHC Housing Policy Conference and Lobby Day will occur March 17-21, 2013. Click here to learn more about the conference and reserve your hotel room early.
