Several more housing-related bills have been introduced in the first month of the 112th Congress.
H.R. 326, The Mobile Home Protection Act of 2011. On January 19, Representative Bob Filner (D-CA) introduced H.R. 326 to allow low income families that own mobile homes but rent the land on which they are located to apply Section 8 assistance toward the rental costs. Mr. Filner introduced similar legislation in the 111th Congress. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.
H.R. 330, The Homebuyer Tax Credit Renewal Act of 2011. Mr. Filner also introduced legislation to extend the first-time home buyer tax credit for an additional year. The federal $8,000 credit expired in September 2010, by which time buyers had to complete their home purchases to take advantage of it. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means.
H.R. 378, The Public Housing Drug Elimination Program Reauthorization Act of 2011. Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) introduced legislation to reauthorize HUD’s public and assisted housing drug elimination program on January 20. She introduced a similar bill in 2009. H.R. 378 was referred to the House Financial Services Committee.
