On June 3, NLIHC will hold a national PTFA call-in day during which advocates are urged to contact the Members of their Congressional delegation to urge them to cosponsor the Permanently Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act. To get your Senators’ and Representative’s contact information, call the congressional switchboard at 877-210-5351, or visit NLIHC's website and enter your zip code at “Contact Congress” on the lower right-hand side.
S. 1761 sponsored by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and H.R. 3543 sponsored by Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) would remove the law’s December 31, 2014 sunset date and would add a private right of action to help ensure that the law is enforceable. The PTFA is the only federal protection for renters living in foreclosed properties. It ensures that most renters have the right to at least 90 days’ notice before being required to move after foreclosure.
In other PFTA action, more than 370 national, state, and local organizations signed letters urging their Senators and Members of Congress to co-sponsor bills to make the Federal Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act (PTFA) permanent. The letters are to be delivered on June 2.
