Cecilia Muñoz was named by President Barack Obama on January 9 to be the new director of the Domestic Policy Council, replacing Melody Barnes who left the post at the end of 2011. Ms. Muñoz has served in the Obama White House as the lead policy person on immigration and the director of intergovernmental affairs, where she was the liaison between the White House and majors and governors. Prior to joining the White House, Ms. Muñoz worked for 20 years at the National Council of La Raza, where she was Senior Vice President for Research, Advocacy, and Legislation. She will continue to be the President’s point person on immigration in her new role.
Michael Stegman is on leave from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to serve as Counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, leading the administration’s efforts on housing finance reform. Dr. Stegman has been at the MacArthur Foundation since 2005 as the Director of Policy and Housing for U.S. Programs. He taught at the University of North Carolina for 40 years, with a leave to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research at HUD in the Clinton Administration.
