NLIHC’s 2012 Annual Housing Policy Conference and Lobby Day is fast approaching. Do not delay and register NOW so you can join fellow advocates, policymakers, residents and others in hearing about and discussing the latest in affordable housing issues. This year’s conference will take place Sunday, March 25 through Wednesday, March 28 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
We are pleased to announce that Cecilia Muñoz, President Barack Obama’s Domestic Policy Advisor and the Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, will speak during the breakfast session on Lobby Day, March 28. President Barack Obama named Ms. Muñoz to be the new director on January 9, replacing Melody Barnes who left the post at the end of 2011. Ms. Muñoz has served in the Obama White House as the lead policy person on immigration and the director of intergovernmental affairs, where she was the liaison between the White House and majors and governors.
Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Ms. Muñoz was the Senior Vice President for the Office of Research, Advocacy, and Legislation at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). She is the former Chair of the Board of Center for Community Change, and served on the U.S. Programs Board of the Open Society Institute and the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Philanthropies and the National Immigration Forum. In June 2000, she was awarded a MacArthur Foundation fellowship in recognition of her work on immigration and civil rights.
Director Muñoz will join Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson and AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt-Baker as this year’s keynote speakers. In addition to our plenary sessions, 40 workshops, an evening reception and Congressional office visits will provide you take-away value to bring about positive change.
