On June 3, the House Committee on Financial Services held a hearing on oversight of the HOME program (see article elsewhere in Memo).
While the bulk of the hearing concentrated on the HOME program itself, in his opening statement, Representative Ed Royce (R-CA) compared the HOME program to the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF). Representative Royce said to avoid future “boondoggles” like, in his view, HOME, the NHTF should be eliminated. Mr. Royce is expected soon to introduce legislation that would abolish the NHTF.
NLIHC President Sheila Crowley testified in support of the NHTF at a hearing of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises on May 25.
