NLIHC Updates Congressional District Profiles for 2012

In conjunction with the release of Out of Reach 2012, the National Low Income Housing Coalition recently completed an update of the Congressional District Profiles to include Out of Reach 2012 data, as well as data from the 2010 American Community Survey.

Each profile contains a selection of data from Out of Reach, including the two-bedroom Fair Market Rent (FMR), the Housing Wage, the Area Median Income and the Renter Wage for each Congressional District.

In addition, the profiles contain housing cost burden data from the 2010 American Community Survey, which offers an overview of the proportion of constituents burdened by the lack of affordable housing in each Congressional District. State-level renter statistics are also made available in each profile; these data include the number of affordable and available units per 100 households that are extremely low income (ELI) and very low income (VLI).

The Congressional District Profiles can be used in advocacy efforts to share with your elected official the depth of need for affordable housing in your district.

The profiles can be accessed in NLIHC’s new web-based resource library: http://nlihc.org/library/CDP
