The National Low Income Housing Coalition will release Out of Reach 2011 on Monday, May 2 at 12:30 pm EDT. This annual report contains a side-by-side comparison of wages and rents in every county, Metropolitan Area, combined nonmetropolitan area and state in the United States.
Out of Reach 2011 again includes the calculation of the Housing Wage: the amount a person working full-time must earn to afford the Fair Market Rent on a modest two-bedroom unit. Out of Reach also calculates the number of hours one must work at the minimum wage and the average renter wage in order to afford typical rents. In addition, the report provides local wage and income data for comparison purposes.
The preface to this year’s report is authored by Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD), the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
