Speaking at the September 21 National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty awards event speech, Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to funding the National Housing Trust Fund. Mr. Frank received the Bruce S. Vento Award for his leadership in addressing the housing and poverty issues of people experiencing homelessness.
During his speech, interrupted several times with applause from the audience, Mr. Frank expressed his intention to fund NHTF through reform of the Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs). He said that under Republican leadership, the Committee has not advanced a coordinated plan on (GSE) reform.
In his remarks, Mr. Frank said that affordable housing issues motivated him to join the House Committee on Financial Services, but during his time as Chair of the Committee, the financial regulatory crisis diverted much of his and the Committee’s attention from this important issue.
