Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) initiated a “dear colleague” letter asking Members of the Senate to sign a letter urging HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan to “swiftly complete” a final rule regarding a jurisdiction’s obligation to affirmatively further fair housing. HUD issued a proposed rule on July 19, 2013 (see Memo, 7/19/13).
“HUD should move forward in assessing public comments…so that a final Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule may be implemented in all communities as quickly as possible,” writes Senator Brown.
Advocates are urged to contact their Senators to sign the letter to Secretary Donovan. Senators can contact Megan Cheney, Megan_Cheney@brown.senate.gov to sign the letter. The deadline is May 2, but might be extended.
Advocates are reminded that a similar “dear colleague” letter is circulating in the House (see Memo, 4/18). Advocates are urged to contact their Members of Congress to sign a similar letter to Secretary Donovan before May 2. Members can contact Carol Wayman with Mr. Ellison at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Gregg Orton with Mr. Green at Gregg.email@example.com.
