The Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding (CHCDF) and other organizations are circulating a letter for state and local sign-on calling for House and Senate appropriators to increase the FY13 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) 302(b) subcommittee allocation. CHCDF is a campaign of more than 70 national organizations concerned about funding for affordable housing and community development programs and is staffed by NLIHC.
Congressional appropriations work begins with the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations dividing the total spending amount for the fiscal year among the 12 appropriations subcommittees. This portioning is referred to as a 302(b) allocation. The subcommittee that determines funding for HUD programs is the THUD subcommittee.
“The THUD allocation was cut deeply in FY 2012 and is expected to result in lost jobs and halted development projects amongst other detrimental impacts. We urge you to increase the 302(b) allocation to the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) to the highest possible level in FY 2013,” write the organizations.
NLIHC urges state and local organizations concerned about HUD programs to sign onto the letter by March 20. More than 1,000 organizations have already signed onto the letter. On March 12, 178 national organizations sent this same letter to appropriators (see Memo, 3/9).
