DEADLINE EXTENDED - Sign on to Protect Housing and Social Service Programs!
The deadline to sign on to this critical letter has been extended to Wednesday, September 19. If you have not done so already, please sign on today to oppose cuts to non-defense discretionary (NDD) programs—including housing and social services programs—that are slated to take place in January 2013.
Approximately 185,000 rental assistance vouchers lost. An additional 145,900 people homeless.
These are just two of the devastating results that may take place if Congress implements sequestration later this year.
More than two million Americans would be negatively affected by sequestration cuts in 2013 to affordable housing and community development programs. View this page to learn more about the impact of sequestration on these programs.
Urge your Members of Congress to use a balanced approach to deficit reduction that will not destroy the safety net of the most vulnerable Americans. Sign on to a letter sponsored by the Coalition on Human Needs, urging Congress to promote the common good, protect the vulnerable, and rebuild the economy.
The deadline is September 19, but don’t delay. Sign on now!
The letter includes four principles developed more than one year ago in a statement signed by 1,600 organizations under the name Strengthening America's Values and Economy (SAVE) for All. By signing the letter, you are asking Congress to protect low-income and vulnerable people; promote job creation; increase revenue from fair sources; and seek responsible savings by targeting wasteful spending in the Pentagon and in other areas that do not serve the public interest.
Read recent Memo to Members articles to learn more about sequestration.
