The nomination of Representative Mel Watt (D-NC) for the position of Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director may be considered by the Senate the week of July 29. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has not yet filed cloture on the nomination, but has indicated that he intends to do so early in the week. It is unclear as of this writing whether Leader Reid has the 60 votes required to end debate and approve the nomination. NLIHC supports Mr. Watt’s nomination and, once a vote is scheduled, will send a Call to Action urging our members to ask their Senators to support Mr. Watt’s nomination.
