The House of Representatives will vote today on its Debt Limit-Deficit Reduction Plan. Congress must vote to raise the debt ceiling by August 2 in order to avoid financial crisis, but the House plan is unacceptable.
The House plan:
- Cuts $917 billion dollars in discretionary spending, which will reduce for housing and other federal programs that assist low income people.
- Only raises the debt ceiling until February, so that another round of cuts can be made next year.
- Does not include any protections for low income people.
- Does not balance cuts with increased revenue.
Please call your Representative's office now and tell him or her to oppose the Boehner Deficit Reduction Bill.
