The Preservation Guide | Federal Housing and Homelessness Plans: Potential Tools in the Affordable Housing Preservation Toolbox, is designed to help residents and other advocates for affordable housing issues work locally to help save, or preserve, federally assisted and public housing units that would otherwise be demolished or converted to market-rate housing. The first part of the Guide - chapters 1 though 4 - provide information on participating in a community's federal planning processes, to ensure that these local plans address the need to preserve federally subsidized and public housing. The second part of the Guide - chapter 5 - will help local communities create their own preservation databases to track federally assisted housing on an ongoing basis.
