NLIHC Releases Toolkit on FEMA Programs for Housing and Homelessness Service Providers, April 13

NLIHC has released a comprehensive toolkit, “Working with FEMA to Address COVID-19 Housing and Homelessness Needs,” designed to inform housing and homelessness service providers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their advocates, about the broad range of FEMA programs, legal authorities, eligibility requirements, and current funding opportunities in areas under Major Disaster Declarations or otherwise covered by the President’s National Emergency Declaration.

This “Working with FEMA” toolkit is the latest in an array of resources offered to the affordable housing community by NLIHC’s Disaster Housing Recovery Coalition (DHRC) – a group of more than 850 national, state, and local organizations, including many working directly in disaster-impacted communities and with first-hand experience recovering after disasters – that works to ensure that federal disaster recovery efforts reach all impacted households, including the lowest-income seniors, people living with disabilities, families with children, people experiencing homelessness, and other marginalized populations who are often the hardest-hit by disasters and have the fewest resources to recover afterwards.  NLIHC and the DHRC have extensive experience and knowledge about FEMA and its programs, as well as its shortcomings.
