Protecting Tenants in Foreclosure Act Expected To Be Reintroduced

Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) is expected to reintroduce the Permanently Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act that would make the federal Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act (PTFA) permanent and add a private right of action to the law. His bill, H. R. 3619 was not acted on in the 112th Congress. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is expected to introduce companion legislation in the Senate. PTFA provides renters the right to at least 90 days notice before being required to move after the property they live is foreclosed on. In many cases, renters can stay for the remainder of their lease. If not extended by Congress, PTFA will expire on December 31, 2014.
