Two Veteran Housing Bills Introduced

Representative Derek Kilmer (D-WA) introduced the Housing Native Heroes Act of 2013, H.R. 3418, on October 30. The bill would set aside up to 5% of Veteran’s Affairs Supportive Housing Voucher (VASH) funds to create a rental assistance and supportive service demonstration program for Native American veterans who are currently homeless or are in danger of becoming homeless. HUD would administer the program in conjunction with the VA and with consultation with tribal organizations. The measure has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.

Representative James Langevin (D-RI) introduced the Veterans Homebuyer Accessibility Act of 2013, H.R. 3422 on October 30. The measure would provide a one-time 10% first-time homebuyer tax credit for veterans. An additional $8,000 credit would be available for disabled veterans to cover costs of making homes accessible. H.R. 3422 has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means.
