H.R. 709, Urban Revitalization and Livable Communities Act. On February 15, Representative Albio Sires (D-NJ) introduced H.R. 709,
which would authorize the HUD Secretary to establish and carry out an
urban revitalization and livable communities program. This new program
would provide federal grants to urban areas for the rehabilitation of
critically needed recreational areas and facilities and development of
improved recreation programs. The bill also provides grants to support
programs that benefit at-risk youth. This is a re-introduction by Mr.
Sires of similar legislation from 2009. H.R. 709 was referred to the
House Committees on Financial Services and on Education and the
Workforce.
