USICH Publishes NHTF Fact Sheet

The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness recently published a fact sheet that provides an overview of the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF). It explains how states can use their NHTF allocation to increase the supply of affordable rental housing for extremely low and very low income families. The fact sheet also includes information on how states can ensure that their NHTF allocation best serves families experiencing homelessness, such as:

  • Selecting a NHTF administration agency with a history of assisting individuals and families experiencing homelessness;
  • Targeting at least 25% of NHTF dollars and providing other scoring incentive in the state Allocation Plan to projects housing those experiencing homelessness; and,
  • Encouraging submission of project applications that explicitly benefit people experiencing homelessness.
