FHEO Assistant Secretary John Trasviña Moving On

John Trasviña, who has served as HUD Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) since the beginning of the Obama Administration, announced on May 3 that he is stepping down at the end of May. Mr. Trasviña is taking the position of Dean of the Law School at the University of San Francisco. During his tenure, HUD issued the important Disparate Impact regulations (see Memo, 2/8) and a final rule on equal access to HUD programs regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity (see Memo, 2/3/12). Under his leadership, HUD also made progress toward issuing a rule to strengthen the obligation to affirmatively furthering fair housing choice. Also, Mr. Trasviña has worked to gain better compliance with jurisdictions’ obligations to affirmatively further fair housing and to meet Section 3 employment, training, and contracting goals.
