Last Chance to Influence “Blank Slate” Submissions

Organizations that support reform of the mortgage interest deduction and directing new revenue that is raised to rental housing that the lowest income Americans can afford are urged to communicate that position to their Senators and ask their Senators to submit the United for Homes campaign proposal to Senators Baucus and Hatch by July 26. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-UT) have requested that Senators submit detailed proposals on their priorities for tax expenditures, if all tax expenditures were eliminated and then recreated (see Memo, 7/12). The deadline to submit these proposals is July 26. All proposals that are submitted are to remain confidential. The United for Homes Campaign has received copies of over 50 letters that have been sent to Senators about the United for Homes proposal. In addition to the United for Homes proposal to reform the mortgage interest deduction and fund the National Housing Trust Fund, the National Low Income Housing Coalition urges support for Low Income Housing Tax Credits, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and the Child Tax Credit.Download a sample letter to send to your Senator at: http://bit.ly/184iSVh View draft legislative language at: http://bit.ly/1drUVV9
