Poll: Insufficient Funds at Root of Home Health and Safety Problems

Based on findings from the National Center for Healthy Housing’s (NCHH) annual Consumer Research Survey conducted in July, NCHH has published a brief that reports that nearly half (49%) of survey respondents reported living with one or more health or safety concerns in their home. The principal reason that occupants gave for neglecting to address problems such as repairing plumbing leaks or installing a carbon monoxide alarm or child safety devices was a lack of financial resources.

An email invitation and subsequent online survey were used to poll Americans 18 years of age or older on their level of awareness about a variety of household health and safety risks and what actions, if any, they had taken in their homes to improve their own health and safety.
