By Sydney Phillips, NLIHC DHR Intern
NLIHC is pleased to welcome Sydney Phillips as a Fall 2026 Disaster Housing Recovery (DHR) Intern.
Sydney is excited for the chance to combine her interests in social and infrastructural policy with housing policy and is dedicated to the research and policy work led by the DHR team. Sydney is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and will graduate this spring with a degree in media and journalism as well as global studies.
With her family hailing from South Florida, Sydney is personally familiar with the impact of climate change and climate disasters on housing policy. She brings with her a background in studying climate-based gentrification, urban gentrification, and industrial pollution. She is especially interested in the work that can be done to ensure culturally conscious housing recovery and development while prioritizing long-term sustainable infrastructure development. During her time at NLIHC, she hopes to strengthen her understanding of the field of policy and research and develop her skills as a policy analyst.
