NLIHC is no longer maintaining the CARES Act database.
The CARES Act included a permanent requirement that landlords of federally supported rental properties give tenants a 30-day notice to vacate prior to eviction. This notification time is longer than most state and local requirements and gives tenants more time to prevent their evictions. Renters and their advocates were able to use the CARES Act database to identify whether a landlord must adhere to this requirement.
Renters and advocates can now consult search tools to identify multifamily properties with federally-backed mortgages from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, HUD’s database of FHA-insured mortgages, and the National Housing Preservation Database (NHPD). The NHPD includes nearly all rental properties receiving federal project-based subsidies and is co-managed by NLIHC and the Public and Affordable Housing Research Corporation (PAHRC). While we require users to register for the NHPD, it is free to use for non-profit purposes.
