The National Low Income Housing Coalition mourns the death of our dear friend, Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston. Mayor Menino was a champion of affordable housing and an early supporter of the National Housing Trust Fund Campaign.

During his tenure as the President of The U.S. Conference of Mayors from 2002-2003, Mayor Menino made affordable housing his signature issue and argued for increased federal support for housing for homeless and other low income people. The National Low Income Housing Coalition is proud that we recognized Mayor Menino with our National Housing Leadership Award in 2003.

The people of Boston had the good sense to elect Thomas Menino as their Mayor five times. Boston’s loss is the nation’s loss. He was one of a kind and the model for great mayors everywhere.

Dr. Crowley is available for further comment.
