Applications are now open for the 2027 cohort of Generation Housing Justice, NLIHC’s fellowship for young adults. Generation Housing Justice mentors young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 to develop their leadership in national affordable housing advocacy. Through skill development, community building, the annual fellowship, and professional networking, the fellowship creates a supportive network of alumni prepared to pursue vocations in the housing justice movement.
The fellowship will run for six months from January through June 2027. Fellows will complete a self-guided course covering the basics of federal policymaking, factors driving the housing affordability crisis for low-income people, policy solutions, advocacy and community organizing skills, and narrative change for housing justice. The cohort will be required to attend biweekly, 90-minute meetings to dive deeper into these topics.
Fellows will complete a group capstone project culminating in a 45-minute presentation to NLIHC staff. Through their presentations, each group will provide a recommendation or consideration for NLIHC’s work in at least one of the following areas: policy, research, or organizing. Recommendations will identify potential opportunities, gaps, and threats relative to NLIHC's current scope of work.
Fellows also will attend NLIHC’s Annual Policy Forum and Capitol Hill Day in Washington, DC, March 2-5, 2027. All fellows will receive a stipend upon successful completion of the fellowship and its requirements.
Qualified applicants for Generation Housing Justice must:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 24 as of January 1, 2027.
