Housing Providers Come Together on Election Engagement

Housing providers have a unique role to play in the coming November election by promoting voter registration and encouraging voter turnout among residents of subsidized housing. NLIHC has joined with other partners to establish a Housing Providers Council of the Our Homes, Our Votes: 2020 effort. All owners and managers of subsidized are invited to join the Housing Providers Council at no cost. Public housing agencies, nonprofit housing providers, for-profit organizations, and tribal groups all are welcome to participate. The criteria for participation are simple. All Housing Providers Council members must commit to staying nonpartisan in their efforts, provide a contact person for engagement in trainings or meetings, and commit to following all election laws.

Participants in the Housing Providers Council will receive access to template materials such as flyers, posters, newsletter articles, and voter guides. They will also receive property-level voter data for all residents that will allow them to track who is currently registered to vote. This voter data approach will also provide opportunities to learn about voter participation of residents over time and allow Our Homes, Our Votes: 2020 to further develop best practices.

Early enthusiasm for this effort has been robust, with committed participants representing more than 300,000 subsidized homes. Join the Housing Providers Council by signing on today. Current participants include the following groups:

  • National Housing Trust
  • Jonathan Rose Companies
