Join NLIHC for the second installment of our Summer of IDEAS film series, an evening of storytelling, community conversation, and action centered on the power of community led change on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET at Unity Hall.
This month's featured documentary, UnBlocked Englewood, follows artist and activist Tonika Lewis Johnson and the Chicago Bungalow Association as they work to repair the lasting impacts of discriminatory housing policies in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. Through housing restoration, public art, and community organizing, the film demonstrates what it looks like when residents lead the work of reclaiming their neighborhoods. The story also draws powerful connections to Baltimore and communities across the country that continue to experience the lasting effects of segregation and disinvestment.
The screening will be followed by a facilitated community conversation featuring local and national leaders, advocates, artists, and changemakers as we explore the lasting impacts of housing discrimination and neighborhood disinvestment and how each of us can advance housing justice. Light refreshments will be served.
Whether you joined us for our first Summer of IDEAS event or are attending for the first time, this evening offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and imagine what equitable investment can look like when communities are trusted to lead.
