Judge Orders Reinstatement of Some HUD Employees Following Mass Firings Under Trump Administration

Apr 07, 2025

Thousands of federal employees are being reinstated after U.S. District Judge James Bredar ordered a temporary restraining order against the firings of probationary employees who were in their jobs for less than one year, including over 300 employees at HUD. In declarations from 18 federal agencies’ human resources officials, agency heads warned that reinstating removed employees would cause "significant confusion" and turmoil for those workers. While the majority of rehired workers have been placed on administrative leave with full pay and benefits, some HUD employees, though reinstated, have been denied backpay and health benefits for more than seven weeks.
