New Tool Compares Changes in Population Experiencing Homelessness

The National Alliance to End Homelessness has released a new tool that allows users to compare 2019 and 2020 point-in-time counts of people experiencing homelessness. The tool shows changes at the state level and by Continuum of Care in a Tableau dashboard. Users can see the changes in overall homelessness, unsheltered homelessness, chronic homelessness, changes in the number of veterans experiencing homelessness, and variation for families and individuals.

The point-in-time count is an annual estimate of sheltered and unsheltered homelessness across the country, conducted on a single night in January. 2020 was the fourth consecutive year in which homelessness increased nationwide (see Memo, 3/22 for more on HUD’s Annual Homeless Assessment Report describing this count).
