New Webinar Will Help Advocates Use Census Data to Track Poverty, Income, and Health

The Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) will host a webinar on September 8 intended to help attendees learn to use newly released census data to track poverty, income, and health. The webinar, “Pandemic and Response: Using Census and Other Data to Track Poverty, Hardship, and the Impact of Aid during a Tumultuous Time,” is designed to coincide with the U.S. Census Bureau’s releases of 2021 data on poverty, income, and health insurance between September 13 and 15. Among other things, the webinar will train attendees to locate these data, use the data to accurately assess poverty in their states or cities, and navigate the Census Bureau’s website and tools. Learning to properly use Census data will help advocates strengthen their advocacy for the investments necessary to reduce racial disparities in vital services, including housing and healthcare. Speakers will include Shailly Barnes, policy director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights and Social Justice; Allison Bovell-Ammon, director of policy strategy for Children’s HealthWatch; and Deborah Weinstein, executive director of the Coalition on Human Needs.
