NLIHC Calls on House and Senate Minority Leaders to Prioritize Affordable Housing in the Next Congress

Sep 14, 2026

By David Gonzalez Rice, NLIHC, Senior Vice President of Public Policy

Congress has returned to Washington, DC for a week of legislative work before both chambers adjourn and head back to their home districts. While this Congress still has much to do, NLIHC is also looking ahead to the next Congress and what it will need to prioritize in 2027.

By 5:00 pm ET on Wednesday, September 16, we invite organizations to sign a letter addressed to Minority Leaders Representative Hakeem S. Jeffries and Senator Charles E. Schumer, laying out priorities for equitable access to affordable housing in 2027. NLIHC will be sending this letter to the House and Senate leaders on Thursday, September 17. We want to make the most of this moment when both chambers are in session.

For questions about this letter and the proposed policy agenda, please contact David Gonzalez Rice, NLIHC Sr. VP of Public Policy at [email protected].

Thank you for standing with NLIHC and our partners in the fight for affordable, accessible, and quality homes for all.

Read the letter to leaders Jefferies and Schumer.
