NLIHC proudly celebrates Native American Heritage Month as a time to celebrate the enduring traditions, rich histories, and vital contributions of Native American, Native Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian communities. NLIHC humbly works in partnership with Native-led organizations to expand our relationships, further our understanding, and uplift Native housing needs through our research, policy, and advocacy.
This month, we recognize and show gratitude for some of NLIHC’s closest Native housing partners:
- National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) works to effectively and efficiently promote and support American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians in their self-determined goal to provide culturally relevant and quality affordable housing for Native people. Among other issues, NLIHC partners closely with NAIHC in our advocacy for the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA), one of our federal policy priorities.
- The Association of Alaska Housing Authorities (AAHA) is dedicated to increasing the supply of safe, sanitary, and affordable housing in Alaska. AAHA is a membership association that includes all of Alaska’s regional housing authorities, which serve members of Alaska's 229 federally-recognized tribes. They are a strong advocate for Tribal housing at the federal level and bring a unique perspective and strategic voice to NLIHC’s state and tribal partner network.
- The United Native American Housing Association (UNAHA) serves as a collective force for Tribal Housing Authorities across the Northern Plains region of the US. They are dedicated to the belief that every Native family deserves a safe, affordable, and sustainable home. Through tireless advocacy, expert training, and shared resources, UNAHA empowers member tribes to build stronger foundations and preserve the sovereignty of their communities for generations to come.
NLIHC is eager to expand our network to include more Native-led, mission-aligned organizations. If you want to explore a partnership, please reach out to [email protected] to schedule a meeting.
