By Sarita Kelkar, NLIHC Policy Intern
NLIHC is excited to welcome Sarita Kelkar as a Fall 2025 Policy Intern.
Sarita is a senior at the University of Virginia, studying Public Policy & Leadership and Statistics. In her free time, she likes to read, bake, and thrift. Her involvements in Charlottesville, VA sparked her interest in housing policy, where her efforts as a research assistant, tutor, and tour guide taught her the importance of community engagement and place-based learning.
With these tenets in mind, Sarita has worked for the City of Alexandria’s Office of Race and Social Equity and Brady United, seeking to elevate the voices of those closest to the issue through organizational and grassroots initiatives. Sarita looks forward to contributing to NLIHC’s policy work and hopes to further her understanding of how legislative action is a piece of what’s needed in realizing housing as a human right.
