Nominate NOW for Second Annual State and Local Organizing Award

Jan 28, 2011

The deadline for submitting nominations for the second annual State and Local Organizing Award is 5pm ET on February 4. The awards will be presented at NLIHC’s Annual Housing Policy Conference in March.

The award will be given for outstanding achievement in 2010 for organizing activities at the state or local level that further NLIHC’s mission: achieving socially just public policy that assures people with the lowest incomes in the United States have affordable and decent homes.

Such activities could include, but are not limited to, the use of community events, door-to-door canvassing, a technology- or media-driven campaign, and/or organizing activities to mobilize a community or constituent base in a way that led to significant legislative victory at the state or local level; significant progress on a state or local legislative campaign; or significant progress in building a resident-driven organization.

Eligible organizations must have been NLIHC members during the 2010 calendar year. They may self-nominate. A committee of judges includes NLIHC board members and previous award honorees; its decision is final.

The honoree will be notified prior to NLIHC’s annual conference on March 27-30 and announced at a plenary session. Two representatives of the organization will receive free conference registration and complimentary hotel accommodations and transportation to Washington, DC to accept the award.

To nominate an organization, send an email to [email protected] with Organizing Award in the subject line. The body of the email should contain the following information:

·  Name of and contact information for nominated organization.

·  Name of and contact information for nominating person/organization (if different).

·  Description of how the organization organized a community or constituent base that led to the organization’s achievement in 2010, and how that achievement assists in furthering NLIHC’s mission (1,000 word maximum).

·  If appropriate, supporting materials, such as press clips or campaign materials, that describe the activity or its impact (optional; should be attached to the email as a .pdf).

The winning essay or a version of it may be circulated to conference attendees and members or posted on NLIHC’s website.
