Now Available: Resources from 10/6 “Tenant Talk Live” Meeting

Oct 10, 2025

This month’s “Tenant Talk Live” featured Denton Cohen from the Rent Brigade, a volunteer-led organization based in Los Angeles. Denton provided an in-depth overview of the escalating conditions for renters in LA, tracing the organizational development of the Rent Brigade in response to heightened confrontation with natural disaster, policy failures, and federal encroachment.

From its role in exposing illegal rent gouging and failures in accountability for opportunist landlords following the January fires in the Palisades and Altadena to its ongoing efforts in collaboration with grassroots organizations to defending the community from violent immigration enforcement and the federal occupation of the city since June, the Rent Brigade has come to play a strategic role in local community defense efforts. Attendees of “Tenant Talk Live” learned of The Rent Brigade’s recent report, “Disappeared and Displaced,” which outlines the hostile landscape for renters and immigrants in LA. This data has been mobilized to support campaigns for direct relief and other local policy initiatives, as well as efforts to build mass power.
