Recap of 11/18 Our Homes, Our Votes Webinar: “Next Steps for Nonpartisan Civic Engagement and Housing Justice”

The Our Homes, Our Votes campaign, a nonpartisan initiative to boost voter turnout among low-income renters and elevate housing as an election issue, hosted the final installment of its 2024 webinar series on Monday, November 18. The webinar, “A Look Ahead: Next Steps for Nonpartisan Civic Engagement and Housing Justice,” reviewed key victories for housing ballot measures in the November 2024 elections, shared tools that advocates can use to hold newly elected officials accountable, and discussed the need for long-term policy change to increase voter access – including a special presentation from Representative Jesús “Chuy” Garcia (D-IL-04) on the “Our Homes, Our Votes Act.” The webinar recording can be found here, and the presentation slides can be found here. The Our Homes, Our Votes Act would integrate voter registration into the lease-up process for residents of public and federally subsidized housing, which would make voter registration more seamless and accessible for low-income renters. More information about the bill can be found here.
