NLIHC hosted its November 2 "Tenant Talk Live: webinar, “Your Vote, Your Voice, Your Representation: The 2026 Elections, Census, and Housing Justice,” bringing tenant leaders and housing advocates together to discuss how elections shape federal housing policies and the communities they serve.
Tia Turner, NLIHC’s Our Homes, Our Votes Project Manager, highlighted barriers to voter participation, the importance of Census representation, and resources to help residents exercise their voting rights, including TurboVote and the 866-OUR-VOTE Election Protection Hotline.
Kim Johnson, NLIHC’s Senior Policy Director, discussed how congressional elections influence federal housing investments, rental assistance, tenant protections, and future housing legislation. She emphasized the importance of continued advocacy beyond Election Day.
The session reinforced a central message: Voting is one way tenants and communities can strengthen their representation and influence the decisions that affect their homes and futures.
