Recap of 5/29 Training Institute Webinar: Organizing 101: Community Organizing & Power Building

May 30, 2025

Yesterday, Thursday, May 29, NLIHC hosted part one of a three-part training webinar for its Training Institute for Tenants and Residents. The inaugural session, Organizing 101: Community Organizing & Power Building, focused on building foundational knowledge for tenant leaders and advocates seeking to drive long-term, systemic change in housing policy.

NLIHC Housing Advocacy Organizers Billy Cerullo and Tia Turner walked participants through the organizing cycle and clarified key distinctions between advocacy, activism, and organizing.  Cerullo and Turner emphasized that while these tactics often intersect, organizing uniquely centers collective neutral power which brings people with shared interests together to shape the systems that impact their lives.

Whether you’re just getting started or deepening your practice, this training and those to follow intend to offer practical tools and powerful insights to support transformative change.
